As leaders, we need to ‘continually challenge the perception of ourselves’.
When a large gap exists between how we see ourselves and how others see us, this leads to ‘leadership blind spots.
This is why feedback from others is so important, it’s like a mirror that allows us to see ourselves as others do.
Action point: identify five key stakeholders and ask them three questions:
- If you were recommending me to someone else, what two or three specific things would you say about me?
- What one or two things if I stopped doing or done more of, I would be much more effective in the role that I am in?
- What is the one overall strength that you see in me?
Are you holding up the mirror?
