Staying on track is exhausting, researchers estimate that workers are interrupted every 11 minutes and then spend almost one-third of their day recovering from these distractions.
Workers change windows, and check email or other programs nearly 37 times an hour!
Since distraction is the opposite to focus, our ability to focus is directly related to how well we are able to consistently avoid and eliminate distractions.
Exercise: make a list of the priorities that you did not complete on the day in question and then ask yourself the tough questions:
– Why didn’t I complete the work I had prioritized today?
– What happened that caused me not to complete them?
– Write down specific answers to these questions and evaluate these answers.
Regardless of how legitimate they look, if they caused you to not finish what you had planned to finish, they were a distraction and caused you to lose your focus.
What distractions do you need to eliminate?
